Authors's notes: I'm writing this as a break from "Sleeping Buffy". When

I heard there was gonna be a lunar eclipse tonight, this just popped into

my head. The moon is almost gone now. Don't worry. I should have the next

chapter of SB out by this weekend.

Buffy was on her way to the dorms when she heard a familiar voice behind

her.

"Hey, Buffy! Wait up!" Riley called.

"Riley! Hey," she said as she pulled her boyfriend down for a kiss.

"Mmmm, minty. I'll have to surprise you more often." Riley said. Buffy

giggled.

"So, what's up?" she said.

"Did you hear about the eclipse tonight?" Riley asked.

"Yeah, its supposed to start about 9, right?" she said.

"Yup. So, anyway, I was wondering if you'd like to have dinner with me,

then afterward, we could go somewhere and watch it together?" Riley

asked.

"Sure. Sounds great," Buffy said.

"Okay, then I'll pick you up around 8:00?" said Riley.

"Alright, then. Its a date." Buffy accepted.

"Right. See you then," Riley said and kissed her goodbye.

"Bye." Buffy said dreamily.

Buffy stood in front of her closet trying to decide what to wear.

She had on a black strapless dress, with a slit up to her thigh.

"I'm a major slut," she commented.

Then she tried on a red spaghetti strap top with a black mini-skirt.

"I'm a hooker who should be out on her corner instead of on a date," she

commented again.

She finally decided on a white spaghetti strap top with tight-fitting

black pants.

"There we go," she said. "He'll like this."

She was just putting the finishing touches of makeup on when she heard a

knock at her door.

"You look great," Riley said when she opened the door.

"As do you," Buffy said. he was dressed in nice slacks and a collared

shirt.

"Shall we go then?" Riley asked.

"Okay, just let me get my coat." Buffy said.

Riley took them to dinner at a restaurant in downtown Sunnydale.

It was actually a pretty nice restaraunt considering what aa small town

Sunnydale is. They ate dinner, and by the time they got back to Riley's

apartment, it was almost 9:00.

"I like that restaraunt," Riley said, opening the apartment door for

Buffy. "I had never been there before, but its pretty good."

"Yeah, it is," Buffy agreed. "Wow, this is a nice place." Riley apartment

was a loft, so the kitchen, the bedroom, and the living room was all one

room. Riley had it decorated with earth-tone colors.

"Thanks," Riley said.

Buffy found the radio on Riley's nightstand, and switched it on.

//When I'm lost in the rain, in your eyes I know I'll find the light to

light my way//

"Oh, I love this song," Buffy said. "Riley, dance with me?"

"I'd love to," he said. They walked towards each other and met in the

center of the room. Riley slipped his arm around her waist, and Buffy

rested her head on his shoulder.

//For a shield from the storm, for a friend, for a love to keep me safe

and warm, I turn to you. For the strength to be strong, for the will to

carry on, For everything you do, for everything thats true, I turn to

you, I turn to you.//

Buffy and Riley danced for the rest of the song like nothing else

mattered. It seemed like the rest of the world was dripping away, leaving

only them to keep each other safe. When the song ended, they stood

embraced for at least another 5 minutes.

"I guess the song is over," Buffy said, stifling a laugh.

"Right," Riley said, and let her go.

"Want to go out to the balcony?" Buffy asked.

"Sure."

They sat out on the balcony on lawn chair for a couple hours. When the

full eclipse finally appeared, it was like nothing they had ever seen

before.

"Isn't it beautiful?" Buffy said.

"Not as beautiful as you," he said. Buffy giggled. The, Riley leaned

over, and ended this story with a kiss.
